Kalamkari Art by INIFD Gandhinagar Student

 


Kalamkari is a type of block or hand painting art made with the use of “kalam” or pen for freehand drawing of the subject and filling the color. This entire process of making Kalamkari is hand worked. In India, Andra Pradesh and Telangana is the place where this art has been produced most. Kalamkari has its style called Srikalahasti style & Machilipatnam style. The Srikalahasti style is free-hand work done with “kalam” and the other one Machilipatnam has vegetable dyes and block printing in it. Kalamkari Art involves animals, Flowers, mature, Humans, and much more in it with the use of attractive and natural colors like dusky, brown, violet, olive green, etc. The process of making this art is a bit slow and calm but the result of it is so delicate.  The over procedure of kalamkari making is in short Resist-Dyeing-Hand Painting.  This Art needed Eye detailing perfection. Silk and cotton fabrics are mostly used in Making this artform. In heritage fashion kalamkari was mostly used on sarees and blouses but now in this new fashion era kalamkari is done on so many clothes to make it look more classy and pretty. Some people use this art frame as a showpiece to decorate their interior.   




Kalamkari art is mostly known for its colorful theme and pleasing patterns. Bhavi Patel, a  2nd-year fashion designing student, made this kalamkari art. Bhavi did amazing work in this kalamkari art. Especially those detailing she worked on were appreciated.
